10:45AM (pt) 7/26/26 – the Brewer fire is now at almost 52,000 acres with 5% contained.
3:15 PM (pt) 7/24/26 – the Brewer fire is now at 35,000 acres with 5% contained. Threats to our mountain top transmitter site seem low. Weather could change everything. We’ll keep putting out radio while the planet cooks.
4:20PM (pt) 7/22/26 -authorities closed off access to the site and concurrently a lightning storm knocked out our Maine streaming server for about 45 minutes. Things are acting stable now, but smooth sailing might be days away.
3:33PM 7//22/26 – the Brewer fire around our transmitter site has expanded to 29,000 acres with evacuation orders surrounding the area. Local tech Cliff Peck made it up last night and replaced a faulty power strip which restored our rack and internet. The site itself is not under direct threat, yet, but KJIV is back on the air.
3:15PM 7/21/26: the Brewer fire, which surrounds our KJIV 96.5 FM transmitter site outside of Madras Oregon is now at 28,000 acres and growing with 1% containment. At last word yesterday, the site itself is not currently under threat, but access to the site and other fires in the area are complicating the efforts of our ISP to restore the Internet. As we say in radio: “please standby”. It could be days, or hours. We will be contributing to “The Fan Fund” in an effort to blow all smoke south.
Word has it wildfires in the area of our KJIV transmitter site at Grizzly Peak in Central Oregon have a part in the outage of our Internet service to our transmitter there, knocking out our signal on 96.5 FM. As always, our crack technical crew, powered by Mormon tea and Ayahuasca, are working on it. We’re hoping Canada doesn’t charge us for the smoke going north.
