A Tribute to Our Tributer

A year ago our man Bruce Van Dyke was cycling around the Burningman Playa thinking all was right in Black Rock City.

A year later, we’re still adjusting to not having his voice, mind, and heart injecting his Mojo on our little radio outfit.

We’ve also lost so many ‘stars’ in the Jive galaxy (Robbie Robertson being one of our heavies) but sadly, we don’t have Bruce to carve up his masterful Tributes. HOWEVER, we do have his library of ‘Tribs’ he did do for us. It really is a great body of work from a seriously pro radio icon.

Longtime Nevadan, Reindeer Lodge innkeeper, impresario & rabblerouser Gary Schmidt is throwing himself an 80th Bday party and “Celebration of Life” for him and his roadhouse on the Mount Rose Highway, last known as The Reindeer Lodge.

BARRY “THE FISH” MELTON, BANANA, ROY BLUMENFELD, PETER ALBIN & OTHERS TBA

HAVING PLAYED TOGETHER SINCE THE EARLY 1980s, THE BARRY “THE FISH” MELTON BAND CONTINUES TO UPHOLD THE TRADITION OF SAN FRANCISCO ROCK & ROLL THAT PUT THE BAY AREA ON THE MUSICAL MAP IN THE MID 1960s.  THEIR MUSIC IS BEST SUMMED UP BY A LINE FROM ONE OF THEIR SONGS “WHEN THE BAND STARTS PLAYING, I DON’T WANT TO STOP!!”

BARRY “THE FISH” MELTON– FORMER LEAD GUITARIST/SINGER WITH COUNTRY JOE & THE FISH, BARRY IS A FOUNDING MEMBER OF THE DINOSAURS.  HE PERFORMED AND LED THE “NO RAIN” CHANT AT THE ORIGINAL WOODSTOCK FESTIVAL IN 1969.  

BANANA – FORMER KEYBOARDIST/GUITARIST/VOCALIST WITH THE YOUNGBLOODS, BANANA HAS RECENTLY BEEN A MEMBER OF LITTLE STEVEN & THE DISCIPLES OF SOUL, AND THE BAND ZERO.

ROY BLUMENFELD – BEST KNOWN FOR HIS DRUMMING WITH THE LEGENDARY BAND THE BLUES PROJECT, ROY HAS RECORDED AND PERFORMED WITH SEATRAIN AND THE NICK GRAVENITES BAND.

PETER ALBIN – ORIGINAL MEMBER OF BIG BROTHER & THE HOLDING COMPANY AND THE DINOSAURS, HIS BASS GUITAR AND VOCALS BACKED UP JANIS JOPLIN.  THE GUITAR HE USED FROM 1965-1993 IS ENSHRINED IN THE ROCK & ROLL HALL OF FAME.
