every once in a while, we like to remind our listeners of the app called Shazam, which is extremely helpful for our modern (or low budget) approach to broadcasting.  Shazam is free, downloads in 1-2 minutes, and works nicely in identifying songs and artists. once you have Shazam in your phone/device, all you do is……when you hear a song/artist you’d like identified, just hold the phone up to the speaker, and within a few seconds, you will see artist, song title, and maybe even the album/CD cover.  it’s quite nifty and will add to your pleasure when listening to the swinging super-eclectic sounds of Jive Radio.

last night, during the Tony Awards program televised on CBS, acting legend Robert DeNiro came on stage to introduce a performance by Bruce Springsteen.  DeNiro began by saying, “Fuck Trump. It’s no longer down with Trump. It’s Fuck Trump.”

DeNiro received a standing ovation from the crowd, which was nice. He then continued with his intro of Springsteen, “In these perilous times, you rock the vote, always fighting for truth, transparency and integrity in government. Boy, do we need that now!”

Fuck Trump indeed. will bumper stickers, t-shirts, and hats soon follow?

 

a body of water that is really quite cool and almost completely forgotten by recreationists is Rye Patch Dam, about 100 miles north of Sparks and 25 miles north of Lovelock via 80.  this dam on the Humboldt River creates the greenish blue water of Rye Patch Reservoir, and right now, it’s full and very handsome.  if you’re a boater, this place is basically yours.  imagine having your own serpentine lake for waterskiing, a lake that extends for at least 12-15 miles.  it’s really kind of nuts how gorgeous this place is, and also how empty it is.  not just awesome for water skiers, but jet skiers, kayakers, canoeists, trolling anglers, etc. etc. etc.

featuring a very nice campground down river from the dam, Rye Patch is friendly to both car campers and r.v.s. The water above the dam is warming a little every day, which means it will be, by the time you read this little blurb, perfect for both camping and swimming and everything associated with these two activities.  .

you know an area that’s really looking good right now?  Washoe Lake. it’s completely full and quite healthy, especially when viewed from the gazebo atop the ridge at Deadman’s Creek (a very nice hike that you find just east of Washoe Lake State Park).  The Lake/Park are excellent spots for kayaking, windsurfing, paddle boarding, or just making sandwiches and reading a book.

a superb natural area in a region often thought of as just the valley that connects Carson and Reno, remember Washoe Lake State Park when you’re in the mood for just a quick trip in the r.v.
